Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Rooted ("the Service"). By creating an account or using Rooted, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

You must provide accurate information when you sign up and are responsible for keeping your credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at support@rootedjournal.app if you suspect unauthorized access.

Rooted offers a free tier and paid subscriptions ("Rooted", "Flourish", and any future tiers). Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing cycle until cancelled. You can cancel any time from your account settings or through Stripe; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period.

Prices may change; we will give reasonable notice before any increase. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — email support@rootedjournal.app.

You retain all rights to the journal entries, sermon notes, prayers, and other content you create in Rooted ("Your Content"). You grant us a limited license to host, store, back up, and display Your Content solely so we can operate the Service for you. We will never claim ownership of Your Content or use it to train AI models.

You are responsible for Your Content. Don't post anything unlawful, harassing, hateful, infringing, or that violates someone else's privacy, especially on shared surfaces like the Prayer Wall.

Rooted uses AI (Google Gemini) to generate sermon study guides, Bible context, weekly reviews, thought/win analysis, audio & image transcription, and verse search. AI output is provided "as is" and can be inaccurate, incomplete, or theologically mistaken. It is not pastoral counseling, medical advice, or professional advice of any kind. Always test AI output against Scripture and trusted sources, and consult a pastor, counselor, doctor, or qualified professional for decisions that matter.

We apply automated safety filters and rate limits to AI calls. We may refuse, log, or suspend AI requests we believe are abusive, off-topic, or designed to manipulate or extract data from our AI systems ("prompt injection"). We do not store the full text of every AI request indefinitely, but we keep short audit logs (timestamp, length, endpoint, safety flags) to detect abuse.

You agree not to, and not to attempt to:

• Reverse-engineer, scrape, automate, or access non-public parts of the Service.
• Upload malware, perform load testing without permission, or attempt to disrupt the Service.
• Spam, harass, threaten, defame, dox, impersonate, or harm any other person.
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute the Service or its AI output.
• Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law, sanctions, or third-party rights.
• Submit content for AI processing or transcription that is sexually explicit, violent, hateful, or otherwise unrelated to Christian sermons, prayer, Bible study, devotional, or personal-growth content. Rooted is built for one purpose; off-topic submissions are not permitted.
• Attempt to manipulate, jailbreak, exfiltrate, or extract the system prompts, instructions, or internal data of our AI features. This includes "prompt injection" — instructions hidden in user content that try to override our safety rules.
• Submit content you did not author or have permission to submit, including copying and pasting third-party AI chatbot output into journal, sermon, or study fields and presenting it as your own (without it being clearly your own reflection or analysis).
• Use the Service to evade rate limits, create multiple accounts to abuse free trials, or share an account with parties not entitled to access it.

We may use a combination of automated detection (safety classifiers, rate limits, heuristic flags) and human review to enforce this Acceptable Use Policy.

Content you post to the Prayer Wall or any shared feature is visible to other users of that surface. Treat these spaces with kindness. We may remove content that violates these Terms or our community standards.

Rooted links to and integrates with third-party services (Stripe, Firebase, Google Gemini, bible-api.com, YouTube, and others). Your use of those services is governed by their own terms. We're not responsible for third-party services.

Public-domain Bible translations (WEB, KJV, ASV, BBE, DARBY, ERV, YLT) are used directly. Copyrighted translations (NIV, NASB, AMP) are licensed and served through YouVersion Platform; they may be displayed as a fallback to a public-domain translation if YouVersion is temporarily unreachable. All Bible content remains the property of its respective publishers.

Rooted sells physical products — the Rooted Scripture Bracelet — at rootedjournal.app/bracelets. Purchases are one-time payments processed by Stripe; we ship within the United States only.

Preorders. Bracelets may be sold as preorders with an estimated ship window shown at checkout. You can cancel a preorder for a full refund at any time before it ships by emailing us with your order number.

Shipping. Orders ship via USPS with tracking. Shipping rates and any free-shipping thresholds are shown at checkout. Title and risk of loss pass to you on our delivery to the carrier; if a package is lost or arrives damaged, contact us and we will make it right.

30-day returns. If you're not happy with a bracelet, email support@rootedjournal.app within 30 days of delivery for a refund or replacement. See our Shipping & Returns policy for details.

Sales tax. Where required, sales tax is calculated and collected at checkout. Prices may change at any time; the price shown at checkout is the price you pay.

You can stop using Rooted at any time and delete your account from your profile settings. We may, at our sole discretion and without prior notice or refund, suspend, restrict, or terminate your account, cancel a paid subscription mid-period without refund, and delete associated content if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms (including the Acceptable Use Policy), if your activity exposes us to legal or financial risk, if required by law or a valid legal demand, or if we discontinue the Service. For repeated or egregious violations — including prompt injection, harassment, illegal content, or off-topic abuse of AI/transcription features — termination will normally be permanent and final.

Where reasonably possible we will notify you of the reason; in some cases (e.g., suspected fraud, abuse, or legal compulsion) we may not be able to. On termination we will delete your content within a reasonable period, subject to our Privacy Policy and any legal retention obligations (e.g., billing records, audit logs of abuse events).

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Rooted, its operators, and its affiliates from any claim, loss, liability, damage, fine, cost, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to (a) your use or misuse of the Service, (b) Your Content, (c) your violation of these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, (d) your violation of any law or the rights of a third party, or (e) any abusive, prompt-injection, scraping, fraud, or impersonation activity tied to your account.

Rooted is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Rooted and its team will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or lost profits or revenue, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or $50, whichever is greater.

We may update these Terms as Rooted evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

You represent that Your Content is yours, that you have all necessary rights to submit it, and that submitting it does not violate any third-party rights or law. AI output produced from Your Content is provided to you for your own personal, non-commercial use; we make no warranty that it is original, accurate, or non-infringing. Do not republish AI output commercially without your own review and editorial responsibility.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute not subject to mandatory consumer protection in your jurisdiction will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to personal jurisdiction there.

You and Rooted agree that any claim or dispute must be brought in your individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, or representative action, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect, and the invalid provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable while preserving its intent.
